Workaway In Southern France

As most of you already know we have started our”Workaway” period. This changes a lot for our project and our way of executing it. We have been working here for ten days and we have been doing different kind of things. Mostly we work in the mornings and have the afternoon free; this gives us the possibility to do smaller hikes on the afternoon, often around 7km. On the weekends we have the time to do a full day hike, like yesterday we did a hike on 27km from the house we’re at to Collonges La Rouge; the red village.

On this hike we passed a lot of farms and we’ve noticed that much of the trash we find in the area are from the farms and the farmers. Plastic hay bindings and plastic pieces of sacks are very common, unfortunately this is not the trash that the locals see and they mostly see the trash that appears during the tourist times that ends up in the ditches along the roads.

With workaway our work is much more effective because we are not fixed to only one way/trail like we normally is but we can actually take different ways every time we do a hike. We are also much faster without the bags and can cover more ground on one day’s hike. This makes us feel like we are not enough in the long run, now more than ever we feel like that being only two persons doing this is not enough to spread the word. Luckily enough our dear workawayer hosts helps with this a lot. Spreading the word to their close friends and family helps a great deal.

During our daily hikes we have the possibility to explore more and enjoy ourselves in the nature more. We are here during the season when berries and fruits are becoming riper for every day; we might enjoy this a little too much. The work we are doing here is also great, we get to work with our whole body and most of the time we work outside in the garden which is absolutely wonderful. We also gain the possibility to travel to different destinations around this same area to different things like canoeing and sightseeing.

Our next blog post will be the “Wildlife Of France”, don’t miss it!

Á Bientot!
